Resource Development Director

PURPOSE: To lead a volunteer driven, cost-effective, donor-oriented fund-raising program that generates funding to meet health and human-care needs in our community.
REPORTS TO: President and CEO/General Campaign Chair

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree with a major in communications, social sciences or business. Minimum of 5 years experience in related fundraising. Advanced degree preferred. Must possess strong communication skills, (written and oral), including public speaking experience. Ability to use software (MS office suite, especially Excel and Word) and other technology to manage data and compose reports. Ability to interpret computer-generated reports and analyze data. Understanding of the non-profit sector desirable. Awareness of local business environment important. General attributes should include: ability to manage several projects simultaneously, work effectively with people from different backgrounds - respect diversity, participate effectively on teams, possess a positive attitude, and a willingness to commit to the values of the organization.

SPECIFIC SKILL AREAS: Understanding of fundraising - basic selling skills, workplace (annual) campaigns, leadership giving (AKA major gifts), and other approaches to generating revenue.Knowledge of solicitation techniques for mailing and telephone.Aptitude and attitude to maximize use of volunteers

MAJOR ELEMENTS:
Develop General Campaign Plan and timetable, employing a fund raising process that assesses potential, sets goals, and identifies volunteer leadership for future years.
Work with Campaign Chair and CEO on recruitment of campaign volunteers.
Provide leadership and management to the Resource Development team.
Implement new fund raising techniques in response to a changing environment (e.g. differing employer needs, recognition).
Organize the campaign structure as needed to respond to changes in the workplace in employment and campaign potential.
Design and implement training programs for volunteers and staff including development of job descriptions, supervising and evaluating the performance of specific staff; assisting with interviewing and hiring of candidates.
Ensure a written strategy for all campaign divisions.
Act as primary staff for select divisions: for example Area-wide, Professionals and Healthcare.
Recruit, cultivate, train and participate in the supervision of the Loaned Employees.
Work with staff to ensure account data is accurate and information is collected, recorded and distributed accurately and timely.
Assist with development, ordering, and distribution of campaign materials.
Analyze campaign results and conduct annual Campaign Critique Meeting.
Conduct an annual retreat for the Resource Development team.
Maintain current knowledge of community political, social and economic factors that may affect the campaign.
Cultivate community support for United Way by maintaining contacts with local organizations, businesses and individuals.
Identify CEO cultivation calls and select scouting visits.
Ensure correspondence and research regarding resource development between United Way of America, UWNC and United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is completed in a timely manner.
Develop and adhere to the general campaign calendar.
Responsible for select planning/allocations responsibilities.Assist in other functional areas of the organization as assigned.
