The Fall Convening of the Asheville Buncombe Middle Grades Network was held at UNC Asheville on October 24, 2019. This annual event brought together more than 140 community members, families and students representing Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, and a host of health, social service, youth services and higher education community partners. We continued our focus on Uplifting Student and Parent Voice and Leadership with a featured panel of local students, parents, and community partners leveraging their leadership to ensure that our community schools are safe, welcoming and compassionate for ALL families.
We were joined by Tauheedah Jackson, from the Institute for Educational Leadership and Coalition for Community Schools and Donnie Hale, from Central Florida University’s Center for Community Schools. Our featured guests shared best practices from the growing field of community schools nationwide, including a focus on innovative strategies that support the foundational principle of community schools: “Educational excellence and equity are inseparable.”
