Yesterday, we held another one of our snack bag decorating & packing events, this time at The Van Winkle Law Firm.
As always, we enjoy these events for their light-spirited fun, but also, of course, the fact that they produce wonderful, individualized snack bags that are almost immediately then enjoyed by kids around Buncombe County, especially on these hot summer days. The bags not only combat hunger, but contain personal messages to the kids from the people who took the time to pack them. These simple acts of kindness and attention to detail never goes unappreciated—trust us, we know.
With this event, however, we did things a little differently. Instead of just having our Van Winkle volunteers decorate and fill the bags, it was made it into a speed-networking session between Van Winkle and Merrill Lynch, who joined them in their office space. Two employees from each organization sat at a table and decorated their bags, getting to know their fellow artisits. The folks from Van Winkle then rotated tables every ten minutes, and the process began again. This allowed for each table's party to get to know the other, hear about their work, find out some personal details, and generally meet some new faces in a pleasant atmosphere.
