Tropical Storm Fred in Buncombe, Haywood, and Transylvania counties.

BENEFITS APPLICATIONS AND APPEALS

FEMA | Accessing assistance and appealing recoupment

OTHER | Connect survivors with relief organizations and other services, including resources for unemployment and food and nutrition

HOUSING

HOMEOWNERS | Assistance with insurance policies, recovery applications and appeals, proving property ownership, avoiding foreclosure and mortgage issues, providing information on rights and more 

RENTERS | Assistance with recovery applications and appeals, eviction defense and rent disputes, understanding renters’ rights and insurance policies and more

DOCUMENT REPLACEMENT

Including wills, powers of attorney, personal identification, birth certificates and Social Security cards

ASSIST LONG-TERM RECOVERY GROUPS

Assistance with 501(c)(3) non-profit incorporation, drafting legal documents related to incorporation, and general guidance as groups navigate the disaster relief ecosystem

SUPPORT VICTIMS OF FRAUD

Provide resources and assistance to avoid fraud after a disaster, as well as help victims of contractor fraud and housing repair scams

 


Disaster Legal Services, which allows callers to request the assistance of a lawyer, is a partnership between the North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Foundation, Legal Aid of North Carolina, the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. The Federal Emergency Management Agency provides funding for the helpline.
