On Saturday, November 9, Angela Williams, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide, arrived in Asheville to meet with Dan Leroy, President and CEO United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County as well as Rebecca Hall, Executive Director of High Country United Way in Boone, NC. This followed visits to other areas in the disaster zone.
After visiting UWABC headquarters in Asheville, the teams from United Way Worldwide and United Way of NC, visited Owen Middle School to learn how our history supporting youth and families has helped in Helene response efforts. The team then visited the Alan Campos neighborhood beside the school to tour rebuilding efforts organized by CORE.
United Way Benefit for Hurricane Relief
On Saturday, November 2, United Way Worldwide hosted the United Way Benefit for Hurricane Relief, a one-hour televised fundraising special in partnership with Paramount Global to raise awareness of the ongoing need and support for those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The event has already raised more than $6.2M for regional relief efforts.
United Way of North Carolina Partners With the Cast of Scandal for Fundraiser
The cast of the hit ABC show Scandal will reunite live on Nov. 17 for a virtual script reading to support United Way of North Carolina’s Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.
Spearheaded by Asheville’s own Bellamy Young, the event will feature Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Diaz, Scott Foley, Katie Lowes, Joshua Malina, Joe Morton, George Newbern, Jeff Perry, Cornelius Smith, Jr., and Darby Stanchfield. Creator Shonda Rhimes will open the reading, her producing partner Betsy Beers will narrate, and special guests will be announced soon.
