United Way Campaign Kick-Off: MoTown Lip Sync Battle For A Cause

Motown Lip Sync Battle for a Cause...

We’ve been busy bees this summer listening to all the Motown classics while creating the coveted Golden Hairbrush trophy in anticipation of our annual fall fundraising season and Campaign Kickoff Friday, September 20 at Highland Brewing Company.

If you were in attendance last year, we threw down some serious 80’s vibes and the community showed up hard-- donning neon wind pants, thick gold chains, and sideways ponytails--ready to perform or dance along in the crowd and raise a pint to the teams pretend-belting their favorite 80’s songs on stage. If you weren’t able to attend, check out this montage video recapping the total radness of it all.

Last year, teams from Mission Health, Van Winkle Law Firm, Explore Asheville, Pisgah Legal and YWCA to name a few lip-synced their hearts out to Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation, a Run DMC mash-up, a self-written spin-off of the hit song ‘I’m So Excited’ amongst so many other epic ballads all in support of our work and that of our community partners in Asheville and Buncombe County.

Stop! In the Name of...Creating an Equitable Community

This year, the YWCA will defend their two time championship as we gear up for another lip sync battle like no other as friends and community members from local companies band together to perform their favorite Motown classics for a cause. From the classic Car Wash song to a hit from the Supremes, there will certainly be no shortage of entertainment and your $10 ticket at the door includes not only entrance to a night of Motown lip-sync fun, but your first pint from Highland Brewing Company, a bite to eat, AND a chance to win two tickets to see The Lumineers at the U.S. Cellular Center in January + dinner for two, and more! And if you’re feeling called to croon along to your favorite Motown classics, there are still a couple of open slots for teams ready to band together and perform.

We look forward to the start of our fall ‘campaign season’ each year because it creates a fun opportunity to bring our community together in support of a common goal--building a more equitable opportunity for all to have access to the education, health and financial stability needed to not only survive but to thrive in Buncombe County. We’re grateful to the sponsorship support of WNC Bridge Foundation, Asheville Radio Group, and Highland Brewing Company, without which this event would not be possible.

What are you waiting for?

Mark your calendar, purchase your tickets at the door at Highland Brewing Company September 20th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. because there ‘Aint No Mountain High Enough’ when it comes to co-creating an equitable community together.
