9-year-old Evie started making sandwiches to support Homeward Bound of WNC several months ago after her mom saw a volunteer listing through HandsOn Asheville-Buncombe, volunteer center of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, empowering locals to stay connected and support their community through COVID-19. "For me, it's just to show them that even when things feel sort of rough and we feel a little helpless about the state of the world, there's always something you can pick up and do for someone else," said Evie's mother Lauren.
