How People Raised Funds for Helene Relief and United Way

We cannot fully express our gratitude for the many individuals from across the country who stepped up and made gifts to support our community.

This page is dedicated to the growing list of people who made significant efforts through special events and other creative efforts.

Azurá Stevens WNBA

Azurá Stevens, a NC native, plays for the LA Sparks and was recently honored with the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award for her community service and dedication. As a part of that award she named United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County as the recipient of the accompanying $20K award.  Thank you Azurá!

the holderness family

If you are on social, you've probably seen some of the clever skits that Kim and Penn Holderness create. As fellow North Carolinians, the duo felt compelled to take action. They designed t-shirts to raise money for several nonprofits in our area. Thank you Kim and Penn for your gift of $17K (and for always making us laugh)!

Billy Strings

If you haven't already gotten your tickets to see Billy Strings during his 6 night residency at Harrah's Cherokee Center in February... DO IT! Billy doesn't disappoint and a percentage of every ticket sold will benefit: Bounty & Soul, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, MANNA Food Bank and American Red Cross Western North Carolina Chapter.

Cake Fight

In October, Virgina-based band, Cake Fight, hosted a concert-fundraiser for our work. Between their own contributions from the event, and the donations made by their audience, the band generated over $5K for relief and recovery work in our area. Be sure to check them out online and give them some love!

Tennessee Football

Tennessee Football showed up for our region during a recent game. Wearing a "Mountain Strong" decal on their helmets, the team brought attention and support for the work of the East Tennessee Foundation, One SC Fund, and United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County. Thank you!!!

Ron Autrey

Author Ron Autrey reached out to us recently to let us know that while on a book tour he and his wife Hilah would be raising funds for a nonprofit dear to their hearts, K9s For Warriors, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County and Lake Toxaway Charitities. We are honored by this $10K contribution to our relief efforts.

Every Gift Is Significant

Our office walls are filled with cards and notes from people across this nation—sharing words of encouragement and hope in this dark time. Some have experienced firsthand the beauty of our community and want us to heal, and others have navigated life after a natural disaster and want us to know we are not alone.

All paused from their busy lives to take action on behalf of people they never met.

We will forever be humbled by the opportunity to steward those funds and ensure they support those in our community still recovering from this devastating disaster.
