Asheville Middle School, located at 211 S. French Broad Ave, will be open to those in need from noon until dark or until supplies run out.

This location is designed for drive-thru pickup in the first bus loop, where bottled water cases will be available for pickup. One case per family is allowed per day.

Pack Square Park, located at 70 Court Plaza, will continue distributing drinking water from 9 a.m. until dark or when supplies run out. Each person will be provided 2 gallons of water per person, with a maximum of 5 gallons per family.

Those going to Pack Square Park must bring their own containers; none will be provided. Assistance will be available for those who cannot carry their water back to their cars.

For the safety of everyone involved, traffic will be directed around the park, and the distribution site will be accessed only by walk-ups. The community is encouraged to park in nearby parking decks and surface lots. Please do not park in roadways to avoid impeding emergency response.

The devastation Hurricane Helene caused in our community and many others is beyond comprehension, but we are here to support our residents' immediate and long-term needs.

United Way is working in partnership with local government and nonprofit partners to do three key things:

  • To collect information and ensure that NC 211 has the most up-to-date resources for callers seeking information and assistance
  • To manage and distribute two kinds of donations:
    • Financial donations for immediate and long-term recovery
    • Donation of supplies and materials
  • Recruiting and supporting local volunteer efforts

The challenges that this situation presents are incredibly complicated. From physical to electronic and communications accessibility, navigating the response to the scale of this incident is staggering, but as information becomes available, we will connect you to ways to find resources and give help if able.

2-1-1 During a Natural Disaster

Dial 2-1-1 for NON EMERGENCY requests for information. This includes locations of shelters, how to find help with food or water, and later information about FEMA and other rebuilding support efforts.

Available 24/7 2-1-1, a single, easy-to-remember number.  The NC211 team is behind the scenes with local and state emergency response teams, coupled with a robust resource database, which is vital to response efforts.
