Honoring Martin Luther King Safely In Community

We hold a vision of our community as united and resilient, a place where everyone belongs and everyone thrives. Dr. Martin Luther King held a similar vision, dedicating his life to naming racial injustice and rallying communities to peacefully show up in opposition to laws and beliefs preventing a truly equitable world for us all.

On this MLK Day, January 18, we invite you to join us in a day of service honoring this vision. Explore opportunities to share a few hours of your time, virtually or safely in community through our volunteer center Hands On Asheville Buncombe HERE.

Join us Virtually at the Prayer Breakfast and Peach March

We're proud to sponsor the annual Prayer Breakfast held by The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County. This years 40th Annual Commemoration will be held virtually. The 2021 programming has been expanded to a week-long list of local events, including the Prayer Breakfast with this year's speaker Dr. Oralene Simmons, a Candlelit Service, the Peace March & Rally, the MLK Youth Scholarship Awards Ceremony and more.

"Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality." - MLK Jr.
