On June 7, 2021 we kicked off the start of our 100th year as an organization in Buncombe County. To honor this important milestone, we're renewing our commitment to placing equity and community wisdom at the center of our work. And we're asking the community to show up alongside us to share their time and energy in 100 Acts of Service, helping to create a united and resilient community where everyone belongs and everyone thrives.
On June 10 we were grateful to have the incredible young men of My Daddy Taught Me That with Founder Keynon Lake kick off the first of those 100 Acts of Service at Erwin Middle School. Together we packed hundreds of resiliency kits, snack packs, and wellness kits to support our most vulnerable Asheville City and Buncombe County students (while jamming to good tunes from DJ Mark Dickerson). If you're not familiar, My Daddy Taught Me That is an incredible local program supporting the development of male youth in our community, guiding them in how to transition from teens into responsible young men. We're grateful for their support in sharing their time and energy with us, providing an incredible example of what it means to show up and what we can accomplish together when we choose to Live United.
